    PhytoBlog — thc vs cbd

    What is CBD?

CBD or Cannabidiol like THC, is one of over 100 different Cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. It has become famous for its naturally beneficial properties and amassed great media attention from widespread claims, testimonials and reports surrounding its beneficial effects on users. At Purephyto we make no medical claims about CBD however we can run you through on some of its amazing properties and why our products are formulated using CBD extract.

Firstly we need to understand the difference between CBD and THC. Although CBD and THC usually make up the majority of cannabinoids in the plant (usually vastly dominant in THC depending on strain) THC has long ago obtained the status of “illegal psychoactive drug” in many countries, and has retained that status even until today whereas CBD has not. THC is still illegal in the UK and in many states in the USA, and also in most parts of the world.

Fairly recently, however, attention has been focused on another abundant compound making out a part of the total marijuana cocktail, if a herb can actually be called that. This substance is called Cannabidiol (CBD) and it was for a good reason that the focus has shifted. Searches for “CBD Oil” have increased exponentially on search engines, due to rapidly growing evidence that CBD has great natural benefits and can be used to stimulate your ECS or Endocannabinoid system (more about this in the ECS post) legally and this can be done without experiencing any psychoactive effects. This is due to CBD’s inability to bind to the receptors THC binds to making you “Get high”.

Many published studies and preclinical trials claim that CBD may be used help as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotector, anxiolytic, analgesic, antidepressantanti-psychotic, and as an anti-tumoral agent, however clinical trials are still yet to solidify these claims. At Purephyto we remind our customers to research CBD and strictly make no medical claims, intend our products for medical use, or market our products as medicines or substances to alleviate, cure, or heal any illnesses or diseases, however we do trust in the power of our products to be naturally beneficial to maintaining good health.

CBD and THC levels vary from strain to strain, and marijuana grown for recreational purposes usually contains more THC than CBD due to the demand of recreational use and “the high” feeling. Selective cultivating techniques have allowed Cannabis growers to create strains that have high levels CBD as opposed to THC, making the extraction of CBD easier and more efficient. CBD can also be extracted from hemp plants, however current common knowledge of the isolated compound suggests it works the same regardless of origin.

At Purephyto we formulate many of our products using CBD isolate - 99% pure crystalline CBD which has had almost all contaminants, waxes and foreign compounds removed, using 99% CBD as the base for many of our products ensures we can make accurate claims about the products CBD content as well as guarantee our products authenticity, ingredients and provide our customers with a safe and clean end product.
